Local entrepreneur and decorated veteran recruits former military personnel for advanced training in cybersecurity and operations.
Bridge 3 Cyber Academy – Veteran Talent and Workforce Development
(Fort Worth, TX, July 9, 2019) Jonathan Silk, a former Army officer and founder of Bridge 3, LLC a leadership development and organizational behavior consulting firm based in Fort Worth, is on a new mission these days – to assist military veterans in transition and help fill a growing shortage in the cybersecurity industry. Cyber skills are in high demand in the North Texas area as well as in the rest of the nation. The combination of newly acquired cyber skills and the attributes Veterans bring with them from their service experiences will make them competitive in the job market and be an effective addition to the cybersecurity workforce.
“It is very important to me that Veterans feel valued and realize their value as they transition from their time in the service to navigating their sense of belonging and purpose in society. This partnership is an opportunity for me to provide one potential pathway to support Veterans in developing skills needed in the workforce, show the world the value Veterans bring and continue to help keep the nation safe.” ~ Jonathan Silk
Bridge 3 has partnered with Socratic Arts the company that has developed the curriculum in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Defense to offer three classes, totaling 29 weeks of work. After the first two classes students will be qualified for entry-level positions. The cost of training is $1,599 for the first four-week course, $3,999 for each of the next two that run 11 weeks and 15 weeks – but according to Glassdoor, the starting salary for cybersecurity jobs in the DFW area is $107,000. Payment plans are available, and Silk is in the process of fulfilling requirements in order to accept GI recipients soon.
A free online information session about the program, which begins in September 4, is scheduled for Tuesday, August 13 at 12 p.m. Participants are required to register through Eventbrite to attend.
The immersive approach Socratic Arts applies will be recognized by Veterans of all branches as it is very similar to the scenario-based learning and simulation exercises they experienced in their military training. During the online classes, students will get video prompts of common threats, like a cyber attack on a hospital in Chicago. Mentors are then available by video chat to help guide the user toward finding and fixing the problem.
These are the same kinds of problems employees will face in a cybersecurity job. Companies in the industry will need to fill 1.5 million jobs or more by next year to keep up with the demands of an increasingly complex and connected world.
